Watch Intense Standoff Shootout that Wounded Okla. Police Officer
Body camera footage was released last week of a dramatic shootout and standoff that wounded an Oklahoma police officer and left a gunman dead.
The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. July 2 when Oklahoma City police responded to a call concerning an armed suspect accused of pointing a gun at a person inside a home, KOKH-TV reports. The first officer at the scene—Sgt. Josh Scott—spoke with three people, who told him that the gunman—identified as Kavon Ragan—was inside the house with two women and three children.
Police began talking with Ragan when he came outside on the porch. He then began shooting, and Scott was struck by gunfire.
Scott was pulled to safety and rushed to the hospital. He underwent surgery for his injuries and was later released.
Ragan retreated back into the house and barricaded himself inside. A standoff ensued, and Ragan allegedly fired at least a dozen rounds at officers, nearby homes and parked cars.
Police exchanged gunfire with Ragan, and a negotiator was brought in to de-escalate the situation. The negotiator talked with Ragan for several hours in an effort to get him to surrender, but the suspect continued shooting.
Finally, a police sergeant fatally shot Ragan. The woman and the children were rescued, and no injuries were reported.
